Cold Summit’s CFO came to finance the way most good ones do: through genuine fascination with how money moves. Cash flow, specifically. “I have always loved tracking and planning cash flow, both in business and in my personal life,” he says.
It’s the kind of instinct that runs in families, and in Brian’s case, it literally does. Multiple generations of his family have had success in real estate, and that foundation shaped where he’s ended up.
His career started in commercial real estate sales, but he quickly found his footing on the analytical side of the business, in construction finance, underwriting, the architecture of deals. After 20 years in real estate and six specifically in cold storage, Brian is now the person who keeps Cold Summit’s financial engine running.
Throughout his career, what Brian is most proud of isn’t a deal or a project, it’s the relationships. Both the ones built inside the companies he’s worked for, and the ones forged with debt, equity, construction, and vendor partners along the way.
When asked to describe the Cold Summit culture, he complimented the company’s encouraging, creative foundations: “We are an execution-focused organization with freedom of thought and expression. Best idea wins.”
That line tells you a lot about how Brian operates. He’s a pretty open book, the kind of person who shows up straightforward and expects the same. The best professional advice he’s ever received reflects it: “Most people avoid discomfort — lean into the hard.” And alongside it: “Negative feedback is gold.”
Off the clock, Brian is a Sun Valley local. Headquartered in Hailey, ID, Brian enjoys spending his free time with a wife he describes as amazing, two kids (8 and 10) he calls incredibly fun, a golf game he’s always working on, and a bike that gets regular mileage. The mountains and the work have found a way to coexist.
That balance between being strategically grounded and creatively open-minded is exactly what Cold Summit’s finance seat calls for, and we’re glad to have Brian in it.
